Capital Refinery
Capital Refinery + Allvue

Allvue rolls up the fund. It does not govern the decision the fund was built on.

Allvue is a serious end-to-end platform for fund accounting, portfolio monitoring, and LP reporting. Its own language is precise — 'real-time data in one source of truth with dynamic dashboards'. That is data layer. The decision layer — the continuous evaluation of whether the IC approval still holds — is a different architecture.

The honest read

What Allvue does well, and where the line is.

01

What Allvue is built for

Integrated fund accounting, portfolio monitoring, and investor reporting.

Allvue genuinely reduces the operational burden of running a multi-fund private markets firm. GL, cash, monitoring, valuations, and LP portal all in one data model. For a firm consolidating across a sprawling stack, that consolidation is real — operations stops reconciling between four systems before every close.

02

What it is not built for

Maintaining the original IC approval as a live object and evaluating it continuously.

Allvue’s reporting and dashboards operate forward from current data. They do not hold the IC memo as a structured record, do not bind operator data back to the assumptions that justified entry, and do not compute time-to-consequence against covenant structure. That is a different layer of software, not an additional report.

03

Where Capital Refinery sits next to it

The layer above the GL and below the LP report.

Capital Refinery parses the IC memo and credit agreement into a structured decision record, binds the live operator data Allvue already aggregates, and produces a continuous decision validity score on every position. Allvue owns the data plane. Capital Refinery owns the decision plane. They compose cleanly.

The dimension Allvue doesn’t operate in

Institutional readiness measurement

Allvue solves fund administration, portfolio operations, and investor accounting for private equity and credit funds. Capital Refinery operates a category Allvue doesn’t: institutional readiness measurement — grading operating businesses (portfolio companies, pre-acquisition targets, borrower-side prospects) against the same 10-axis framework that buy-side ICs, lender credit committees, and LPs use to evaluate. The artifact carries a deterministic fingerprint and a public verification URL.

The two product surfaces don’t compete — they operate at different layers of the stack. Allvue handles fund admin and portfolio operations; Capital Refinery handles structural readiness measurement on the underlying operating business and decision integrity through the lifecycle. See institutional readiness and the same-engine architecture for the dimension Allvue doesn’t address.

If your firm already runs Allvue, the natural next question is what governs the thesis behind the dashboards. Bring us a deal — we'll show you on real data.

Where this leaves you

Keep Allvue if you need fund + portfolio data on a single source of truth. Use Capital Refinery when you need a neutral, evidence-backed readiness artifact that shows what will survive institutional review.

Capital Refinery is the institutional measurement layer. It does not replace Allvue; it sits next to it. The decision to engage is a routing decision, not a swap.

When to use CRIf Allvue is the fund-accounting and portfolio-analytics back office but your team still rebuilds the IC memo and the drift-since-IC analysis quarterly by hand, that’s when Capital Refinery’s IC anchor and continuous drift layer enter. Allvue tracks today’s numbers; CR connects them back to the entry thesis and the conditions IC approved on.
