Capital Refinery
Glossary

The terms a buyer, seller, banker, lender, LP, or board director will actually encounter.

Practical, not exhaustive. Defines the terms Capital Refinery uses in its artifacts and the alternative names sophisticated readers may hear elsewhere. Where a locked primitive name exists, this glossary uses it; where a common informal alternate exists, the glossary cross-references it transparently. No cute jargon, no marketing-shaped definitions.

How this glossary is structured

Fifteen terms. Each carries a definition and links to the surface where the term is operationally used. Where Capital Refinery has a locked primitive name (e.g., Decision Ledger) and the buyer is more likely to encounter an informal alternate (e.g., Decision Record), the glossary defines the locked name and cross-references the alternate. The pattern matches the engine’s refusal to soften: vocabulary discipline parallels the structural discipline.

Term 01
IRA (Institutional Readiness Assessment)

Capital Refinery's deterministic engine output grading a business across 10 axes: financial consistency, data integrity, reporting maturity, KPI completeness, operational risk, stress tolerance, governance, management responsiveness, key-person dependency, customer concentration. Sub-lane-parameterized thresholds; two gating axes (Data Integrity and Financial Consistency); named blockers with remediation horizons. The primary artifact across the Capital Refinery operator ladder.

Term 02
Self-Assessment

Operator-attested entry to the IRA ladder. $750 fixed-fee. 4-page fingerprinted memo against the 10-axis framework. Cannot promote past intake without document evidence; carries a 'Self-Assessed' band only. Fee credit-forwards 90 days into the Readiness Gap Review or formal IRA.

Term 03
Readiness Gap Review

Document-verified limited-scope review. $4,500 fixed-fee, 5 business days. Top-five named blockers a sophisticated reviewer would surface first. Produces the 'Verification In Progress' band — the first artifact a sophisticated reviewer treats as evidence rather than attestation. Fee credit-forwards 60 days into the formal IRA.

Term 04
Verified Financial Artifact

A document that carries a deterministic fingerprint, a public verification URL, and an engine-graded refusal to soften — independent of the SaaS platform that produced it. The primitive ships today on the Continuous IC Memo and the IRA; the architecture extends to further classes (stress run, covenant attestation, board export, QoE and lender artifacts), in development.

Term 05
Decision Engine

Lowercase descriptor for the underlying deterministic-first grading capability that produces every IRA, IC memo, Risk Signals scoreboard, and covenant forecast. Capital Refinery uses 'engine' as a generic descriptor — never as a branded product name. The same engine grades every reader's artifact across operator, banker, buyer, lender, and LP lenses, which is what makes the artifacts portable across counterparties.

Term 06
Decision Record

Informal reference for the Decision Ledger primitive (see below). The structured record of how an investment decision moved through the lifecycle — pressure detected, decision typed, downside tested, path chosen, output governed, outcome locked.

Term 07
Risk Signals

Consolidated firm-policy scoreboard rendering on every IC memo, every export, every portfolio rollup. Six signal categories with delta / unit / severity-typed entries: portfolio LTV, customer concentration, T-3 expense creep, debt-service runway, lease at-risk rent, title exceptions. Change a firm policy threshold once; every memo re-grades on the next render. Hides clean secondaries by default.

Term 08
Continuous IC Memo

Living memo layer that surfaces drift accumulated since IC approval. Every operator update re-evaluates IC-approved assumptions against the new data; the 'Since last IC' panel renders the diffs in human-readable language derived from the anchored snapshot — not reconstructed by the analyst the night before the quarterly.

Term 09
Decision Timeline

Per-position structured record of every IC decision: original approval, drift evidence accumulated, reopens, executions, outcomes. Each row is a decision-commit anchor with sanitized metadata. LP-sanitized version (operator metadata stripped) renders at /p/<token> for any position where the GP has issued a verification URL.

Term 10
Evidence Grade

The structural ladder of evidence behind any Capital Refinery artifact. Operator-attested (Self-Assessed) → document-verified limited (Verification In Progress) → evidence-confirmed full (Evidence-Confirmed, with an externally-distributable verification artifact whose distribution the operator controls). The price ladder reflects evidence cost — not feature differences between tiers. Same engine grades every level.

Term 11
Fingerprint

Deterministic cryptographic hash linking an artifact to the engine state at issuance. Any input change produces a different fingerprint; same inputs always reproduce the same fingerprint. Allows a reader to confirm independently that a document was not edited after generation. Carried by every IRA export, every IC memo, every covenant forecast.

Term 12
Public Verification URL

Token-authenticated URL at which a Verified Financial Artifact resolves for public verification. Format: /p/<token> for IC memos, /p/ira/<token> for IRA snapshots. The receiving counterparty (buyer, lender, LP, board director) verifies independently — no login required, no SaaS dependency, no platform access needed.

Term 13
Refusal Discipline

Structural property of the Capital Refinery engine: the engine refuses to grade what it cannot observe. Sentiment, narrative coherence, management communication style, AI-derived qualitative judgments — all marked not_observable rather than imputed. The discipline is enforced in engine code, applied identically across every reader's artifact. The refusal is what makes the artifact credible to sophisticated reviewers.

Term 14
Re-IRA

Second IRA recompute against remediated evidence. Tests whether named blockers actually cleared. Produces the Re-IRA delta artifact: which blockers eliminated, which gating constraints cleared, what diligence friction disappeared, what new buyer/lender classes are now viable. Read in outcome language, never score language ('eliminated 7 blockers' beats 'score improved C+ to A-').

Term 15
Partner-Handoff Brief

Component of every IRA output. Names the consultant, banker, CPA, or specialist who should engage the named blockers; sequences remediation workstreams by priority; suggests re-check schedule and pricing context. The brief is engine-rendered, not improvised. Channel partners (CEPAs, exit planners, bankers, consultants) engage operators against the brief; Capital Refinery does not deliver remediation work itself.

What this glossary refuses

This glossary does not define terms Capital Refinery refuses to use as graded inputs — “AI readiness,” “digital transformation maturity,” “management quality score,” “narrative coherence rating,” or similar. These are sentiment in numeric clothing. The engine refuses to produce them; the glossary refuses to legitimize them.

The glossary also does not rename the locked primitives. If a buyer encounters a CR primitive under a different name in third-party communication (e.g., “Decision Engine” instead of the lowercase engine descriptor, or “Risk Scoreboard” instead of Risk Signals), the glossary cross-references rather than legitimizes. Vocabulary lock matches engine refusal discipline.

The glossary above is the lookup. The pages it links to are where the primitives actually live and the engine actually runs.
